I'm generally ignorant about their beliefs. It is my understanding that they qualify as what sociologists call a "high control religion" (A term I learned from Daniel Miller of Straight White American Jesus, @danielmillerswaj ).
With that understanding, it's not as important to me what they believe, as it is how they maintain social cohesion amongst their adherents.
As for their outwardly known tendency to "evangelize" I will say that although it is touted as trying to gain new converts, it does little to accomplish that, but instead does a lot more work forging the identities of young members as belonging in their insular social group with an external society that rejects them.
